The Mayfield Studio Shoot – behind the scenes expose

Hi there, Dan Romani here.

A while ago I mentioned that we Freelance North lads would be spending a day at the (relatively new, definitely fantastic) Mayfield Studio working on some group ideas and some personal projects. Well, that was yesterday and I’ve taken some behind the scenes photographs, in case you’re interested.

Here they are:

Liam and Frizz - comedy Musical DuoBish took some promo pictures of Liam and Frizz; a comedy musical duo. I was busy doing my own stuff and forgot to capture any shots until he’d finished but here they are reviewing their shoot in Lightroom and starring their favourites so Bish can edit them.

Roy Muncey-Varty rocking the euro-casual lookHere they are reviewing their pictures while Bish starts his next session with Roy Muncey-Varty of Mook Films. Roy is wearing Euro-Casual and arming himself with a baguette in his not-so-serious attempt to be voted Esquire’s Best-Dressed Real Man.

Bread and grapes, two of your five props a day! Here’s Roy explaining why its important to get at least 5 props a day for a healthy photoshoot.

It's a baguette wrapper... on a table

Only the best props are used in FNP shoots. 100% French bread that is!

Next it was Dan Graham’s turn and he used the time to add some creative fashion photographs to his portfolio.

Falling Down - Or will be with the help of PhotshopHere’s the set-up for Dan’s Falling Man image, a shot that will require some post processing in Photoshop.

And here he is shooting local model, Sarah Jones for a sort-of-matrix-inspired shot combining different frames to give a sense of dynamic movement to the final image. This is another one that will be fully realised in post processing.

And there you have it! There are no pictures of me working because I was the one taking the behind the scenes pictures. I’m like the Dad who never appears in the family photo’s ha ha! Well, in fact, I was mostly playing the part of Photoshop Wizard, and you’ll find out why soon enough. I did, however, take a few fashion/portrait photographs. Here’s a picture of Bish being my test model while the real model was in hair and makeup:
